Sør-Brenna: On the night before Saturday, a solitary, dark-clad person was recorded by an outdoor camera at a detached house in Sør-Brenna. The footage shows a calm, controlled and methodical operation in which the veranda, doorway and benches are carpeted with long strips of toilet paper, likely 3-ply. The individual wore a white mask, clearly inspired by Edvard Munch's The Scream – elongated, expressive and frightening, with dark eye openings that seem to stare blankly toward the camera.
In the dead of night
The incident takes place during a period when trick or treat is traditionally practised. Normally such "tricks" should be small, reversible and carried out with respect for property, a good night's sleep and the community. When the act instead becomes extensive, when it requires considerable cleanup, and when it can contribute to a sense of insecurity, it will quickly be perceived as vandalism – both socially and in a legal sense.
The homeowner's experience
According to the homeowner, candy was visibly placed by the entrance. Nevertheless, completely unprovoked, trick was chosen over treat. He emphasises that the selection at the door was both "healthy and community-building": dates, almonds and omega-3 capsules, and he is utterly baffled by the incident.
– When you come home from the evening shift, tired and worn out and ready for the weekend's warm embrace, but instead end up trapped in a sticky, funnel-shaped web of toilet paper - like prey desperately trying to escape the spider lurking patiently in the dark - that's when you feel lawlessness. This is anarchy. I might have let it pass, but then wouldn't we all just give up on civilisation?

True crime
An inexperienced TV producer sees an opportunity to break through regionally, and reports that the editorial team is considering using the incident for a new true-crime series. The project could be built around the white Scream mask, the nighttime camera footage, the recognisable "toilet-paper signature" and the village's gradual unease.
