There was great anticipation about what the governing coalition would recommend at today's executive committee meeting.
The relief was therefore great when input from the districts appeared to be heard and the proposed cuts were withdrawn.
The resolution reads:
"An analysis of the lower secondary school structure in Vågan shall be carried out. All lower secondary schools shall be included in the analysis. The analysis shall cover the advantages, disadvantages and other consequences of reorganising the lower secondary school structure. Several forms of reorganisation may be included in the analysis."
"The analysis shall assess the economic consequences, both in relation to the operation of the school buildings, transport, costs for teaching staff and all other costs associated with the operation of the lower secondary schools. In addition, the psychosocial and pedagogical consequences for the pupils shall be assessed. The socio-economic consequences for the local communities should also be included. An external analysis shall be carried out. HOKI chooses who shall conduct the analysis and how it shall be conducted. A new case will be put before the municipal council within the second term of 2024."
The Strauman group is pleased that the executive committee is aware of its responsibility and did not vote through the proposal to cut the education sector. The Strauman group and the parents' council thereby feel heard by the politicians on this occasion and are confident that the impact assessment supports what we have said all along regarding the closure of district schools.
