Strauman Childhood Centre is located a half-hour drive west of the municipal centre of Svolvær, beautifully situated midway between the outer and inner sides of Lofoten. The new childhood centre was ready for occupancy at Easter 2019 and houses a school, after-school programme, kindergarten and Strauman church.
The primary school, kindergarten and after-school programme are once again co-located, which provides for a long-term learning perspective, in which children and adults get to know one another well. The childhood centre greatly values the interest and commitment of the village community. The sum of these conditions contributes to a safe and good working day, created through openness, respect, care, loyalty and security.

The childhood centre offers an inclusive local community in natural and beautiful surroundings, with engaged and positive children, parents/guardians and staff. The lovely surroundings provide ample opportunities for shorter or longer excursions on the shore, in the forest or in the mountains – a fine lean-to shelter, an asphalted accessible trail with easy passage for prams, a lit trail with prepared ski tracks in winter and good terrain for physical activity or recreation the rest of the year, large and small football pitches, a sheep barn and Arne Johnny's place on the edge of the Storelva river. Little children's feet can easily get out for an outing.
